Warranty Window Explained
If a caravan or motorhome is covered by the manufacturer’s warranty, then to preserve the cover the van has to be serviced every year by an AWS registered engineer or has to go back to the dealership on or around the registration date of the vehicle. Doing this every year for the 6 or 10yrs of the warranty will mean the manufacturer should honour a warranty claim should you make one. To explain, the warranty for the first 3yrs should cover most things that aren’t wear and tear, the 4th, 5th and 6th year will only cover water ingress. Some warranty’s can be extended to 10yrs but again this is for water ingress only.
Missing a service, or having the service done late (beyond the 60 days allowed from the registration date) will mean the manufacturer will void the warranty cover.
At the 3rd year and the 6th year the warranty window changes slighty, you still get 60 days before the registration date, but you can not have it done beyond that date. This is because these points mark the ends of the warranty period and therefore the 60 days after is not an option. If in doubt consult your manufacturer and ask them to tell you the date periods for your service.
